more gluten-free Disneyland
I shot a photo of the yummalicious cheeseburger available to us gluten-free folks at Disneyland… this time I remembered to do so before I ate it. Haha.

By the time we hit Tomorrowland at noon, I was starving. Our hotel offers a buffet breakfast every morning and the only thing I can eat are the scrambled eggs. That doesn’t last too long so by the time lunch arrives, I could just about eat a hunk of concrete. Fortunately, I can order a cheeseburger with an actual bun (I’m so over lettuce wrapped burgers, blech) so I’m not forced to pry up the walkway.
Today’s bun was perhaps a bit stale but delicious nonetheless. I cannot express the joy I find in being able to pick up and eat a burger like “normal” folks. And enjoy a nice salty side of fries as well. Finger licking good. (Can I say that since I’m not referring to a certain deep-fried-chicken restaurant? Hmm…)
For dinner we had reservations at the Blue Bayou restaurant. This is the one you float by at the start of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. We waited a few extra minutes to sit by the water and had a nice, romantic, enjoyable meal. The lighting is pretty dim in there and I was annoyed enough at the woman 2 tables over who was taking so many photos, I felt like I was in a music-free disco. A few more shots and I may have suffered a seizure. So I decided I wouldn’t add to the blinding flashes of light and opted against taking photos. You’ll have to live vicariously through my description.
I had a medium-rare Filet Mignon. Perfectly roasted. Amazingly delicious. This came paired with a side of garlic infused spinach (so, I’m not a spinach gal, as it turns out. Blech!) and 4 stalks of totally scrumptious white asparagus. I just adore asparagus.. when it’s cooked correctly as this was. Slightly tender with a nice bite. Just lightly seasoned. I could have eaten an entire platter of these.
The waiter was very attentive to my dietary requirements and brought the head chef out to go over what I could and could not have. He was very well informed and when noting our orders, told me that I could have the dinner salad but without the blue cheese and sausage. It was a chunk of iceberg lettuce (my fave kind – just love the crunch) with a thick tomato slice and a few avocados… satan’s own food for sure. These went straight to the man on my right. Joe’ll eat anything. Slimy green nasty paste included. :shudder:
On top of the lettuce was a nice vinaigrette. Very tasty.
I enjoyed several glasses too many of the fresh brewed ice tea and ended up visiting all the bathrooms between the restaurant and the main gate at least once. Oh, was that too much info? Well, that’s what happens when you suck down 6 refills! Guess I was more thirsty than I thought.
Going to the Blue Bayou is one of the highlights of our trip each year and tonight was no exception. It is so enjoyable to be served by staff that know what a celiac can eat. And it’s a major bonus that the food is so darn good.
Did I mention that I just LOVE Disneyland?
Tomorrow we hit Universal Studios. I’ll be starving by the time we go to dinner at PF Changs. Universal is a gluten-free wasteland… sigh.
